Pula’s “Lighting Giants” will go green to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day

On Saturday, March 17, the Embassy of Ireland in Croatia, together with the Croatian cities Zagreb, Rijeka and Pula, once again join Tourism Ireland’s Global Greening initiative in honor of St. Patrick’s Day, Ireland’s national holiday.

Pula is the first city in Croatia that joined this initiative in 2016, followed by Zagreb and Rijeka in 2017.

Pula’s famous “Lighting Giants” in the Uljanik shipyard, one of the oldest shipyards in the world, joins the Global Greening initiative for the third year in a row. On Saturday, the “Lighting Giants” will be lit green. Every year, Pula also hosts the well-known Bloomsday Croatia event in honor of James Joyce, the great Irish writer who lived in Pula more than 110 years ago. This year’s Bloomsday celebration will be held June 15 and 16.
